The Story of Lazarus
For those of you not familiar with the story of Lazarus, This is a true story that represents the once and for all decision we all have the choice to make. Who is your eternal hope? Here goes. Lazarus was an everyday kind of guy. He lived about 2,000 years ago. Mary and Martha were his sisters. The three lived in a town named Bethany. Other than being siblings, this family had something in common. They were all close friends and followers of a man named Jesus.
To imagine life nearly 2,000 years ago is a stretch for the mind. In two words: No electricity! A simple life to say the least. You worked, walked everywhere and hung out with family and friends. People talked for hours… in person that is. I can imagine Mary and Martha cooking delicious food for Lazarus. When Jesus was in town there would be plenty on the table for all to eat. He would stay with his three friends when traveling to Bethany. Jesus taught, healed and listened to people all over the region.
When Mary sees Jesus, she and others follow to the tomb where Lazarus lies. Mary falls at the feet of Jesus. As she weeps, Jesus is moved. He begins to weep for his friend., feeling the sting of death. Jesus loved Lazarus. He had enjoyed being a part of his life. Jesus considered Lazarus a friend. While Jesus walked the dusty roads preaching, healing he was like one of us. Jesus belonged to us and us to him. A family united by the greatest love of all. As Jesus looks upon the wrapped body of Lazarus, he commands Lazarus to rise from the dead. Lazarus comes out of the grave, alive! There must have been surprised expressions on face.
Death to living! A true miracle! Lazarus has the most incredible story to tell the world the man who had come to teach and heal , came to give life! That life -is eternal.
This is the best ‘do over’ ever. Nothing can top salvation my friend! Not long after performing this miracle Jesus died on a cross for you and me. For all! He died in our place. God knew we would never hang on a cross, Jesus did that for us. Three days after his death Jesus rose up from the dead! This is the greatest love, it is free. You receive in faith. Faith that Jesus lived died and rose from the dead.
Based on John 11 - New Living Translation Bible
Ask Jesus now. He is always listening. He is waiting to hear from you dear one.
No one earns this gift; God’s grace is a gift for you. Jesus will cleanse your heart with his perfect blood shed many years ago for you. You will receive, love, joy and peace that only Jesus can give. Do you need perfect peace in an upside down world? Jesus will set you free from the bondage of sin and all the weight you carry with you.
Jesus trades our sin for eternal life. A never ending life!
Those who are in the family of Jesus will never die. That same life giving miracle can be yours now. Lazarus had a second chance. That is exactly what Jesus does for all who accept him as Savior. He raises us from the dead. The dead man that is sin. Sin separates us from the love of God and Jesus.
Something you don’t witness everyday! He calls Lazarus from the dark cave into the light of day.
We know one day Lazarus becomes extremely ill. Mary and Martha send word for Jesus to come to Bethany to pray for Lazarus. Jesus waits two days before walking to Bethany. In that time, Lazarus dies. Jesus tells his followers that Lazarus’ sickness would not end in death. Jesus said, ‘It is for the glory of God’. How? No one understood . When Martha meets Jesus she says if you had been here, my brother would have not died. ‘But even now I know the Lord will give you what you ask.’ Jesus says your brother will live again. He asks to see Lazarus.
